Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Here Depp is playing Raoul Duke, who decides to go to Vegas in the company of his psychotic friend. This movie is an adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s novel which goes by the same name. This movie is biographical and based on a real story – the story of Molly Bloom. Ms. Bloom is a talented skier, but her career and dream to participate at the Olympics is over after a bad injury. This turns her to the world of poker where she becomes a big figure, although in a certain moment she gets arrested by the FBI as well. That’s a pretty good movie.


The Cincinnati Kid (1965)


There’s no doubt that this is one of the greatest gambling movies of all time. It stars Steve McQueen in the leading role and it tells the story of Eric “The Kid” Stoner who used to play poker during the time of the Great Depression. The movie focuses at the rivalry between Stoner and Lancey Howard who is regarded the best poker player in the world during this time.


The Gambler (1974)


The Gambler is a movie by the director Karel Reisz and it tells the story of Axel Freed – a literature professor who is highly intelligent, but has some serious gambling problems which lead to him losing all his money and taking loans from some dangerous guys.
